History

Mahasarakham University is a public university located in the center of Thailand’s Northeastern region.  Its main function is to extend higher education in this area, but it attracts students from the whole country and wider Asian community. Mahasarakham University was awarded statutory status in 1994 and has been expanding rapidly ever since, both in terms of its facilities and academic services.

Mahasarakham University Faculty of Medicine was established on 21st November 2003.  It is responsible for educating and training a well-selected group of medical students in cooperation with northeastern regional hospitals operating under the Ministry of Public Health.  The faculty has been tasked with providing more medical doctors to serve rural areas, as stipulated by Government policy. The National Strategic Plan aims to provide citizens of all ages’ access to health insurance, thereby protecting and improving physical and mental health.  Mahasarakham University Faculty of Medicine aspires to excellence in Medicine by incorporating local knowledge into decision-making, by providing new medical technology, and by promoting a thorough and effective health care service.
