The faculty runs three undergraduate degree programs and two graduate degree programs. The Doctor of Medicine program produces highly adept and ethical graduates in Medicine, and is helping to meet the growing demand for better medical-care services both locally and nationally. The Bachelor of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine Program provides intensive training in Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, enabling graduates to take care of patients according to the wisdom of our nation’s ancestors. The Bachelor of Science Program in Emergency Health Care furnishes graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to administer safe, rapid-response health care to emergency patients. The Master of Science Program in Health Science provides training in research, equipping graduates with the skills needed to excel in academia, industry and healthcare settings. The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Health Science provides advanced training in data collection, statistics, communication and other research skills, enabling students to make original contributions to knowledge in their chosen fields of study. This degree prepares its graduates for leadership roles in academia, industry and healthcare. All five of these degree programs undergo regular quality assurance and risk management assessments by the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission and Thailand Quality Award.
The Faculty of Medicine provides healthcare and healthcare products via three types of center:
1. There are two Medicine Service Centers, a primary care unit located in Mahasarakham University’s Khamriang District campus, and Mahasarakham University Hospital located in the Muang District campus. Both centers offer services in modern medicine.
2. There is also an Applied Thai Traditional Medicine Service Center, which provides traditional health care services such as Thai massage and approved herbal products. This is located in the Muang District campus.
3. Lastly, there is a Medicine and Herbal Products Producing Center. This center has two functions. It produces traditional herbal medicines for national distribution, and serves as a training workshop for Applied Thai Traditional Medicine students. The center is located in the Muang District campus.
The Faculty of Medicine is research-active in various areas of applied, social, and clinical science. Through these activities, the faculty helps to protect community health and promote the sustainable use of community resources such as food and medicinal plants. The faculty is also engaged in projects of national and international importance such as evidence-based allocation of healthcare resources, and identification of risk and protective factors for infectious and neurological diseases. By publishing this work, the faculty is helping to solve important health problems and elevate Mahasarakham University through the world university rankings.
To provide students with a well-rounded education and instill in them a sense of national pride, the Faculty of Medicine promotes Thai art and culture through various extra-curricular activities. The faculty also emphasizes morality and social responsibility as an integral part of student development, encouraging them to honor the university motto “Public devotion is a virtue of the learned.”
